I've been working on the images for the campaign, organizing graphics, etc and I'm reminded, yet again, on how...entertaining...it can be to search through stock photos when you're doing book stuff.

For example, when I was working on my bastardized fairytales or the Kit Colbana books, I often needed images of bad-ass women. But that rarely gave up anything useful on stock image sites, so I'd use this term...

Woman + warrior



And that's the kind of image I often got. Nope. I'm not writing a book about a yoga teacher. Supposedly using very specific keywords was the key. 

Okay, so...

What about ...

That's not even a couple. Much less people. Dangerous, I'll give you.

Okay, maybe...

Well, we have danger. And we have a person.

A lot of time, searching for stock images can be an exercise in frustration and patience.

But sometimes? It's pure entertainment. I used to share my amusement on twitter but I'm not on the site these days.

However, after today's delightful discovery, I just had to share and since I'm trying to find images for this campaign?

You guys get to be the lucky ones entertained.

I entered dark+haired+man...cuz I need an image of somebody to represent Donner, the MMC in book three in the omnibus.

Donner is...big. He's the second in command to Meri, the mermaid who is in charge of the eastern Atlantic region in the US. Donner shapeshifts into an orca. He's dominant, brooding and more than a little dangerous.

So I need a specific sort of image to represent him.

And what did the gods of Canva present me with right off the bat?

To name a bad guy?

I'm kinda thinking about creating a tier where a backer can choose to name a side character in the third book in the omnibus where a backer can name somebody in the book who...isn't nice.

This person isn't the book's villain.  I've already named that one and I don't think I can change it.

But I do have a couple of characters who can be named if anybody might be interested.

One is a small-time asshole. Perfect if you have ever wanted to see somebody you don't like get their comeuppance!  We will only do the first name on this character, FYI and maybe a sketchy description.  Also... it's a guy. That can't be changed.

Other characters I'm thinking about offering up for names include a Fae side character (she's female).

Annnnnddd....last but not least, a mermaid! Or merman. Merthem? I totally believe in inclusivity and I'll work with you on this one because I'll create the character to suit you! I'm happy to write male, female or non-binary and work to create the character to suit you. I also have sensitivity readers who can help with this aspect, should somebody need it.

The world has fallen into violence in war. Once more, fear and division has turned people against each other.

One side believes that only mankind should inhabit the planet and all preternaturals creatures must be exterminated.

The other holds firm, standing their ground, side by side with their Pretern allies. Hold the line. Life must be protected. Hate cannot win out.

It's time to choose a side. Or... not. You can withdraw from the world, as one faction chose.

But take heart! Even among those who would dismiss the raging war as none of their concern, heroes rise.

This is going to be my third fourth...crowdfunding campaign. My third one is wrapping on Kickstarter tomorrow, ack!

And I am debating.

This will be an omnibus, probably between 600-800 pages.

I'm wondering if I ought to go all out and do a super special edition with the foiled dustjacket and the designer sprayer edges and color interior illustrations...

But if I do that, it's going to price that particular special edition at about $100-$110, just because of how big the book is.

I'm probably looking at 

$6 ebook
$35 Trade
$50 Case Hardback
$105 for Hardback with Dustjacket and Sprayed Edges

The print books will come with the ebook for free and the omnibus will have a brand-new full-length story, plus I'm looking at having color art done, at least 2 images per book.

But is there interest...?
